Chaikin, Joseph
(n. 16 sep. 1935, Brooklyn, N.Y., EE.UU.).

Dramaturgo, actor y director teatral estadounidense. Fue miembro del Living Theatre antes de fundar el Open Theatre (1963), el que se convirtió en una fuerza influyente del teatro experimental. Sus célebres producciones, que incluyen America Hurrah (1966), The Serpent (1969), Terminal (1970), The Mutation Show (1971) y Nightwalk (1973), son el resultado de una estrecha colaboración entre el autor, el director y los actores. Publicó sus ideas sobre el teatro en el ensayo The Presence of the Actor (1972). Luego colaboró con Sam Shepard en varias obras, entre ellas The War in Heaven (1984) y When the World Was Green (1996). En 1977 fue el primero en recibir un premio Obie a la trayectoria.
